Militant groups hold protest vs capitalism in QC

Labor and militant groups held protest actions at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani in Quezon City on Sunday, the 32nd anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

The groups decried how capitalism hounds the Philippine government despite the democracy the country had regained years ago.

According to a Balitanghali report by Rida Reyes, the groups prepared an octopus effigy depicting President Rodrigo Duterte's face on one side and the Aquino administration on the other side, showing that these leaders "used" democracy to gain the trust of the public.

The tentacles of the octopus effigy, meanwhile, reflected the problems being faced by the country such as contractualization, low salary, Charter Change, high taxes, deregulation, and labor violations.

The urban poor groups plan to troop to Camp Crame after their activities at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani to further voice their sentiments.

In April, these groups will launch "Batas ng Masa," which seeks to change the 1987 Constitution as, according to them, the present Constitution is anti-poor. — Anna Felicia Bajo/BM, GMA News
