DTI seizes substandard appliances in Manila’s Quiapo district
Substandard appliances being sold along Raon Street were confiscated by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) during an inspection in Manila's Quiapo district on Tuesday.
According to a Balitanghali report by Bernadette Reyes, several television sets and DVD players found without an Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) sticker were seized by the DTI's Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau for further inspection.
According to the DTI, business owners selling the questioned products will be penalized.
The DTI also advised the public to exercise precaution when purchasing items at cheaper prices from Raon Street, which is known as Manila's electronics center.
Meanwhile, officials also found a supermarket along Carriedo Street selling products below their suggested retail price in spite of new taxes under the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law.
The tax measure, implemented January 1 this year, imposes taxes on basic goods and commodities, as well as non-essential products such as sugary drinks. — Margaret Claire Layug/MDM, GMA News
