Fire hits residential area in Navotas City

A fire hit Barangay Tanza, Navotas City on Wednesday evening, the eve of the start of Fire Prevention Month, GMA News' Katrina Son reported on "Saksi."

The fire along Sulu Street quickly spread as the houses in the area were made from light materials.

The BFP personnel received a call around 8 p.m. and they quickly responded to the emergency.

After less than 30 minutes to fire alarm was raised to Task Force Alpha, which means that the BFP regional director takes over the operation and that about 20 fire trucks are needed to respond to the emergency.

BFP Superintendent Crispo Diaz said more or less 50 fire trucks responded, according to a report on Unang Balita by Katrina Son on Thursday.

Firemen had difficulty pinpointing the cause of the fire since the residence where it started was completely razed to the ground, said Diaz.

Some residents were able to save belongings, but others were not able to do so.

The fire was placed under control around 10 p.m.

The BFP said 40 houses were burned, affecting 80 families.

Structural damage was estimated at P1 million.

The BFP reminded the public to take extra caution and check electrical circuits especially since March is Fire Prevention Month. —BAP/KG, GMA News
