Newborn baby found abandoned inside parked jeepney in QC
Officials of Barangay San Roque in Quezon City are looking for the mother of a baby boy found abandoned in a parked jeepney, as well as for the two men last seen with the child.
Residents found the baby Sunday night after they heard what they first thought was a cat, according to Barangay San Roque Chairman Nonoy Mortega.
"May narinig ako. Akala ko pusa. Then tiningnan ko. May baby sa may driver's seat ng jeep. Kinarga ko," said Edson Ochiai, who was on his way home when he found the baby.
"Ang lakas ng iyak niya. Parang pusa nga. Nagbe-breastfeed naman po ako. Sabi namin, padedehin ko na rin," said Erika Ramos, another resident.
Witnesses said they saw two men leave the baby inside the jeepney.
Barangay officials believe the men lived close by because they left the scene on board an electric bike.
The baby's hospital tag was still intact when he was found. It identified him as Baby Boy Garcia who was born on March 24 at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center.
The tag also bore the mother’s name.
Barangay officials went to the address she gave the hospital, but residents in the area said no one by that name lives there. They also said there was no pregnant woman living in that address.
Baby Boy Garcia has since been brought back to the QMMC. He will be confined there for three days before being moved to an orphanage.
Several residents of Barangay San Roque have expressed their desire to adopt the child.
QMMC, in a statement, said it is investigating the matter. —KBK, GMA News
