Motorist shows fake traffic violation ticket issued by fake MMDA enforcer

Motorists were reminded by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) that they may ask traffic enforcers for their mission orders after a driver showed up to pay for a fake traffic ticket for his license on Tuesday morning.

MMDA Officer-in-Charge Jose Arturo Garcia said the driver's license was confiscated by a fake officer who attempted to extort money from him along EDSA on Monday.

"Peke ang ticket. Definitely hindi niya (fake enforcer) tunay na pangalan 'yan kasi wala naman kaming ganyang pangalan," Garcia said in a press conference.

"Iimbestigahan pa namin," he added. "Nagpunta dito iyong motorista para bayaran iyong ticket niya nga para ma-claim yung license. Ang problema peke nga, so wala sa amin lisensya niya."

Earlier in the briefing, Garcia explained that motorists can ask traffic enforcers for their mission orders and check their uniforms to see if they are in their designated beat.

He said the MMDA will change the uniforms of their enforcers soon due to reports of posers to extort money from motorists.

"Madami tayong reports, madami tayong kaibigang nagre-report," Garcia said.

He also admitted that mission orders could be faked, but said motorists can check if the order has official signatures and report enforcers they believe have fake documents.

Meanwhile, Garcia said the MMDA has punished erring traffic enforcers.

He said at least 1,000 enforcers, who have been found guilty of fraud and other violations, were removed from the field.

He said four of the removed enforcers were found to have issued fake tickets, while others extorted money from trucks.

Garcia said his own relative almost fell victim to an extorting traffic enforcer. —Rie Takumi/ALG, GMA News
