Woman arrested for selling ‘abortion pills’ in Manila
A woman was nabbed in Sta. Cruz, Manila for allegedly selling pills that supposedly induce abortion.
A Balitanghali report by Oscar Oida on Sunday identified the suspect as a certain Elizabeth "Betty" Franco, 64.
Authorities were conducting clearing operations against illegal vendors in Carriedo Street when they caught Franco selling the prohibited pills.
"Natuklasan namin na itong si Betty ay matagal na naming hinahanap sa aming surveillance na nagpapakalat ng mga... dito sa Quiapo area," Police Chief Inspector Leandro Gutierrez of the Plaza Miranda police said.
Seized from the suspect were pills worth more than P40,000.
Franco admitted that she had been selling the pills, which she said she obtained from a foreigner.
"Foreigner po nagbibigay, konti lang po pangsuporta lang po," Franco said.
