New Metro Manila cop chief has mixed emotions as he leaves Southern Tagalog

Newly installed National Capital Region Police Office director Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar on Friday said that elevating the level of professionalism of Metro Manila cops would be the hallmark of his leadership.

Eleazar said that he would continue what has been started in this administration which include intensified campaign against illegal drugs and internal cleansing.

"I want that our organization to be more professionalized. Well lahat ng intervention ating gagawin, maging disiplinado...Itataas natin ang antas ng professionalism sa ating organisasyon upang tayo ay maging karapat dapat sa tiwala na binigay ng ating publiko," he said in his first press briefing as NCRPO chief in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

While Eleazar expressed his gratitude toward PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde, he said that his new post would definitely be a new challenge for him.

"Mixed emotions, mixed feelings kasi nagsisimula pa lang yung ating kampanya sa Region 4A at may mga program tayong sinisumulan, subalit ito'y tawag ng hamon ng ating chief PNP at ako'y lubusang nagpapasalamat kay general Albayalde sa pagtitiwala na binigay niya dito sa akin," he said.

"So I will do my best not to fail our chief PNP and our organization and the public for this trust bestowed upon me and I'm committed and determined na ipagpatuloy ang sinumulan ng ating chief PNP na dating regional director ng NCRPO upang maitaguyod natin ang ating kampanya against illegal drugs and eventually magkaron ng tayo ng isang payapaya, tahimik na komunidad dahil sa pagsugpo sa ilegal na droga," he added.

The new NCRPO chief said that he would strengthen the counter-intelligence task force against erring policemen as well as the Regional Special Operations Unit under his leadership.

" Ngayon i-a-activate ko rin o palalakasin yung Regional Special Operations Unit. This will complement the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit in its effort to running after high-value targets and at the same time, hindi lang illegal drugs pati na rin high-value targets involved in syndicated crimes," Eleazar said.

Eleazar replaced Director Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, who was reassigned to head the PNP Civil Security Group.

Prior to his new post, Eleazar served as the director of the Police Regional Office 4A for 43 days and he was also the chief of the Quezon City Police District.

He is a member of Philippine Military Academy Hinirang Class of 1987, an underclass of Albayalde and predecessor Director General Ronald dela Rosa. —NB, GMA News
