Over 4k residents evacuated in Marikina due to rising river water
More than 4,000 individuals have been evacuated in Marikina City on Sunday morning due to the rising water level at the Marikina River, caused by the effects of Tropical Depression Josie, Super Radyo dzBB's Jonathan Andal reported.
Citing Marikina Police information, Andal said affected residents continue to stream towards evacuation centers in Malanday Elementary school, Bonela Covered Court, Nangka Elementary School, Sta. Elena High School, Concepcion Integrated School, Tanong High School, and H. Bautista Elementary School.
The number of evacuees has ballooned to over 4,000 individuals after preemptive evacuation measure was encouraged, the report said.
Marikina River's water level has breached 17.3 meters as of Sunday morning, the report said.
Earlier, Marikina City Mayor Marcy Teodoro clarified that forced evacuation has not been imposed in the city yet.
This will only be made once the water level goes past 18 meters, he said.
Nilinaw ni Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro na wala pang ipinatutupad na 'forced evacuation' sa lungsod.

Still, authorities are expecting the number of evacuees to continue to increase as water level at the river goes up, the report said.
