PNP nabs two over car theft scam
The Philippine National Police on Wednesday arrested two individuals wanted on nine counts of car thef, PNP Director General Oscar Albayalde said Thursday.
The duo were apprehended in their home in Tondo, Manila.
They were brought to Camp Crame on Thursday afternoon, where one of them started crying when their photos were being taken.
Albayalde said that the couple are connected to a Roger Garvida, who used to work with known car theft gang leader Rafaela Anunciacion.
Anunciacion was arrested earlier.
The PNP chief noted that the suspects used company names Roglev Enterprises, Phil Tech Solutions, and Car Rental Company as front for their car theft activities, in which they would prod victims to register their vehicles for car rental, only for these cars to be later sold or pawned by the suspects.
The PNP said accused the duo of victimizing 30 individuals and said that they have yet to account for 34 vehicles.
Highway Patrol Group Acting Director Roberto Fajardo, for his part, called on all agencies to exercise utmost diligence in preventing similar illegal activities and called on car owners to report car theft incidents to the phone numbers (02) 723-2824 and 723-0401 local 4389. — Llanesca T.
