MMDA urges motorists to use Mabuhay Lanes as holiday rush starts

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Sunday encouraged motorists to use Mabuhay Lanes or other alternate routes as the holiday season kicks in.

In Jam Sisante-Cayco's report on Balitanghali Weekend, the MMDA said that the number of vehicles on roads increases by 20 percent during the Christmas season.

Taking alternate routes would help decongest EDSA and other major roads.

Beefed-up clearing operations of illegally parked vehicles along Mabuhay Lanes will be implemented to ensure travel convenience.

Motorists may check MMDA's list of alternate routes posted on its website.

Other measures to avoid heavy traffic during the holiday rush are set to be implemented until January 14, 2019.

Starting Monday, the opening hours of malls along EDSA, Commonwealth, C-5, and Marcos Highway will be adjusted to 11 a.m. during weekdays.

Mall operators were given the autonomy to set the closing hours.

A moratorium on road constructions will also take effect on Monday.

Emergency and flagship construction projects of the government, however, will be allowed to proceed. — Dona Magsino/BM, GMA News
