Family at alleged address of Ateneo 'bully' cries foul as deliveries pour in

The family staying at the supposed address of the Ateneo "bully" student cried foul as goods and food items they did not order but were ordered by netizens were delivered to their home for them to pay.

Facebook user Jewel Taculod shared that the leaked address supposedly of the said student that is spreading online is fake and it was actually her family’s home address.

In her Facebook post on Saturday, Taculod asked netizens to stop buying goods and food items online to be delivered to their home.

“Please stop buying or ordering online to be delivered in our address. Please stop,” she wrote in her post with uploaded screenshots of netizens’ posts showing their orders from online shops.

One netizen wrote, "Goodluck na lang *name of the bully*. Sana mabayaran mo lahat.”

Taculod said she learned that their home address has been leaked online when she read the comments of a viral Facebook post that her friends shared.

“Pagtingin namin sa comment section nandu'n na address namin,” Taculod told GMA News Online in a message.

Taculod said a delivery boy from a popular online shop told her that there was a box with goods worth P37,000 scheduled to be delivered to their address.

“Tinanong ko 'yung nag-deliver kung meron pa bang orders na delivery sa amin under the name of *name of bully*. And then sinabi niya, ‘Meron po, ma’am. Isang malaking box na worth P37,000 and P17,000,” she told GMA News Online in a message.

Among the items that were brought to their house were food from a fastfood chain worth P7,000.

Taculod also told GMA News Online the leaked address belongs to a church founded by their family.

“Pastor ang tatay ko. In fact, bishop,” she said.

Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Chief Superintendent Benigno Durana Jr. told GMA News Online on Sunday that the case can be referred to the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG).

“I will refer the matter for ACG to investigate,” Durana told GMA News Online in a text message.

However, he clarified that Taculod should personally report it to the PNP-ACG for the matter to be considered as a verified complaint.

“Personal dapat because we don’t investigate through telephone or online. It should be a verified complaint,” Durana said in a text message.

Taculod said she already reported the matter to the police and she was advised to call them when another delivery came to their address.

The PNP-ACG on Monday told GMA News Online that netizens may be held liable for sharing Taculod’s address which was mistaken as the address of the Ateneo "bully" in the viral video.

“Puwede po nating silipin kung merong paglabag sa Data Privacy Act ang pagkalat ng kanyang address na tinatrato na personal information ng batas,” the ACG said in a text message.

“As a general rule, kailangan ng consent ng may-ari bago i-publish,” the ACG added.

The National Privacy Commission (NPC) has the jurisdiction over such cases, according to the PNP-ACG.

Also, the PNP-ACG said spreading fake or false information such as this can be considered as online libel under Republic Act 10175.

“Puwede din tingnan ang anggulo ng pagkalat ng address na 'yun bilang isang fake or false news, na puwedeng maka-give rise sa online libel under RA 10175 o liability na Unlawful Use of Means of Publication and Unlawful Utterances under Article 154 ng Revised Penal Code,” the PNP-ACG said.

Meanwhile, Taculod asked the public to be more responsible in sharing and posting information online.

“Kasi you will never know na may nasasaktan ka na pala or naaapektuhan na family. Always think first of what you’re gonna spread online. Do a research if it’s a fact or not para lahat tayo peaceful,” she said. —KG, GMA News
