MMDA imposes stiffer penalties for illegal parking

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) warned motorists against the higher penalties they face if they illegally park their vehicles.

According to Mark Salazar's report on GMA's "24 Oras" on Monday, the fine for attended illegally parked vehicles was raised by MMDA five times its original price of P200 to P1,000.

Drivers of unattended illegally parked vehicles, on the other hand, will now have to pay P2,000.

The fine for obstruction which was P150 has also spiked to P1,000.

Some motorists apprehended by MMDA constables in the clearing operations along the Roxas Boulevard service road in Pasay City protested after they were given tickets.

Some argued that they just briefly stopped on the roadside and did not park.

The traffic enforcers, however, were adamant as strict implementation was needed.
