UP ranking in Asia-Pacific rises; DLSU only other PHL school on list


Only the University of the Philippines (UP) and the De La Salle University (DLSU) made it to the list of more than 300 top universities in the Asia-Pacific region, according to the Times Higher Education (THE)'s Asia-Pacific ranking 2019 released on Wednesday.

In the report, UP ranked between 101 to the 110th university leaping from its 156th ranking in the previous year, while DLSU joined the 2019 ranks entering in the 201 and 250 bracket.

Last year, both universities were also the only Philippine schools to enter the  the World University Rankings 2019, with UP ranking between 501 to 600, while DLSU ranked between 801 to 1000 out of more than 1,250 universities.

On its official website, UP said it ranked high in the fields of Clinical, Pre-clinical, and Health subjects, Life Sciences and Social Sciences, Engineering and Technology, and Computer Science in the 2019 THE rankings.

DLSU also landed a spot in the fields of Engineering and Technology, and Emerging Economies.

The Tsinghua University in China was rated as the top university in Asia, overtaking the previous year's No.1, the National University of Singapore.

Japan also topped the list with over 103 featured universities, with China coming in second with 72 universities.

The London-based publication analyzed universities across East Asia, Southeast Asia and Oceania, with more than 300 universities from 13 different nations.
