Commonwealth Avenue traffic stays okay on 1st day of flyover closure
Traffic flow on Quezon City's Commonwealth Avenue was manageable on Sunday, the first day of the closure of the Tandang Sora Flyover.
The flyover is closed to give way to the ongoing construction of the Metro Rail Transit System Line 7 (MRT-7), which is expected to be completed in two years, GMA News' Rida Reyes reported on Balitanghali.
Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) personnel have set up concrete barriers on both lanes of the flyover and intersection to notify motorists of the closure.
A poster was also set up to inform motorists of the new U-turn slot they can use.
In the following weeks, the MMDA will also close the two westbound and one eastbound lanes on Commonwealth Avenue to give way to the equipment that will be used for the MRT-7 construction.
Personnel from MMDA and Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety (QC-DPOS) were on standby to guide motorists.
However, tricycle and jeep terminals on Tandang Sora Avenue are still operating despite the clearing operations the MMDA conducted before the closure.
Tricycle drivers argued they are holding permit to operate from the city and barangay governments.
But the MMDA said they will issue violation tickets for obstruction. —Joviland Rita/LBG, GMA News
