QC gov't regulates e-cigarette use in public places

The local government officials of Quezon City agreed to regulate the use of e-cigarettes in public places in order to protect the health and welfare of its residents.

City Ordinance 2737-2018, signed by Mayor Herbert Bautista, prohibits the use of e-cigarettes inside places of worship, hospitals and other healthcare centers, government offices, educational or recreational facilities, as well as in public transport vehicles.

E-cigarette use will be allowed in other enclosed establishments that are open for public and private use if the owners or proprietors of the buildings have put up appropriate and clear signages permitting so.

A designated vaping area, separate from the smoking area, must also be provided in private workplaces.

Under the said ordinance, minors are also prohibited from selling and purchasing e-cigarettes.

Violators may be fined of up to P5,000. Business permits of offenders may also be cancelled or revoked. —Dona Magsino/LDF, GMA News
