2 new pumping stations in Valenzuela to help ease flooding —DPWH
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Saturday inaugurated two new pumping stations in Valenzuela City to address the frequent flooding in some of its areas.
The two projects situated at Barangays Wawang and Coloong cost P1.02 billion and are among priority projects under the feasibility study on the Valenzuela–Obando–Meycauayan (VOM) Area and Drainage System Improvement Project, the DPWH said.
“We implemented these projects to help in draining major areas of Valenzuela City to the Meycauayan River, easing the damages caused by frequent flooding that the residents have long been suffering from,” DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said.
According to the department, the pumping stations are equipped with primary and secondary trash rakes designed to hinder garbage and other wastes from intruding the pumps and help in keeping the river clean.
The projects include six submersible axial flow propeller pumps (four sets for Wawang Pulo and two for Coloong) each with a capacity of 3.5 cubic meters.
They also include generator sets, flood gates, conveyors, stop logs, and gantry cranes, each with a 20,000-liter capacity diesel storage tank.
DPWH Unified Project Management Office — Flood Control Management Cluster project director Patrick Gatan, Senatior Sherwin Gatchalian, Valenzuela Representative Wesley Gatchalian and Valenzuela City Mayor Rexlon Gathchalian were also present during the inauguration ceremony. — Margaret Claire Layug/MDM, GMA News
