Suspect in Bulacan slay wrote suicide note with different name
One of the two suspects involved in the killing of a mother and her two boys in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan allegedly took his own life while inside the detention facility.
According to Maki Pulido's "24 Oras" report on Tuesday, police said the suspect who introduced himself as Joselito Cortez had left a "suicide note," which he signed using another name.
The note read: "Patawad po sa aking nagawa. . . . .Ako po ay nagsisi nang malaki sa aking nagawa, nawala ako (sa aking) sarili. Nagmamahal, Joselito I. Lumba."
The suspect had allegedly been going by another name as he was wanted for previous criminal charges, the report said.
On April 3, Jaymee Casabuena and her sons Gabriel, 8, and Joaquin Mateo, 5, were found dead inside their home.
Joselito was arrested together with another suspect, Wilson Cortez, who allegedly held the victims down as his companion stabbed them to death.
Wilson, who remains in detention, admitted that they broke into Jaymee's home to steal her cellphone, which they sold for P200.
No foul play
Police Colonel Orlando Castil Jr., chief of San Jose del Monte police, said Cortez could have hung himself with a cord that inmates used for their laundry.
"May kahoy pala doon, tapos 'yung mga ginagamit nilang cord du'n na sampayan ng damit ...na pinaglalaba nila, 'yun ang ginamit niya," he said.
A detainee said his fellow convicts notified the authorities immediately after finding the body.
"Nakita na lang po nu'ng kasama namin...nakabitin, hindi na po namin ginalaw, tumawag na po kami ng mga (pulis)," Crispin Cruz said.
San Jose del Monte police said they had no reason to suspect foul play, surmising Joselito took his own life out of guilt.
"'Yung dalawang bata na walang kamuwang muwang, sasaksakin mo ng 21 na saksak, tapos yung isa na 8 years old, 15 na saksak," Castil said.
"Siguro siningil na siya ng konsensiya niya," the police chief added. —Margaret Claire Layug/LDF, GMA News
