300TH DEATH ANNIVERSARY

Devotees visit St. John Baptist De La Salle’s relic in Manila Cathedral

Several devotes trooped in Manila Cathedral to see the relic of St. John Baptist De La Salle on his 300th death anniversary, Katrina Son reported on GMA News’ Balitanghali on Thursday.

Inside the cathedral, a public viewing of the saint’s arm bone was organized by De La Salle University personnel who led the commemoration for the saint.

A mass was celebrated by Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle.

He said that the life of St. John Baptist De La Salle was never easy, teaching how to be poor, how to show compassion to the poor and how to be a child again which, according to Tagle, are needed to have a peaceful society.

Among those who visited to see the relic were students and officials of De La Salle University.

“Ito na ang panahon para magbalik-loob tayo sa Panginoon. Magbago tayo sa mga nagawa nating mga kasalanan. Ito na siguro ang pagkakataon na lumapit muli sa kanya para humingi ng kapatawaran," said devotee Melvin Del Prado Favilan who works in De La Salle’s Mechanical Engineering Department. —Joviland Rita/LDF, GMA News
