Inspectors check interiors of leaning EAC building in Manila
Inspectors from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Thursday inspected the Emilio Aguinaldo College building in Manila which leaned on the adjacent structure after being jolted by an earthquake.
According to a report by Mark Salazar in GMA News TV's State of the Nation with Jessica Soho, the media were not allowed to join the inspection, but authorities said they found no alarming cracks inside the school building.
"Kung gumalaw 'yan makikita mo 'yung crack eh. Wala namang visible na crack t'saka maghihiwalay 'yan eh. Makikita mo 'yan sa gilid 'pag gumalaw 'yan hihiwalay. Wala, so far," DPWH director Johnson Domingo said.
The inspectors are also set to gather concrete samples from the building and study its structural design, as well as that of the UN Residences building beside it.
The EAC building will remain closed until authorities prove its structural integrity.
It was listed as one of the four post-quake damages in Manila, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Crisis Management Center.
The magnitude 6.1 magnitude earthquake on Monday also left hairline cracks in six public buildings in San Juan City and minor cracks in 27 structures in Mandaluyong City.
Some electric posts in Parañaque were also damaged. —Dona Magsino/LDF, GMA News
