Teary-eyed Nancy Binay fears for brother Junjun’s life

A teary-eyed Senator Nancy Binay on Monday said she feared for the life of her brother Junjun who had been receiving death threats since last year.

Nancy indicated that their sister Makati Mayor Abigail Binay could not hurt the former local chief executive but those around her could.

“Natatakot ako for him, baka saktan nila si Junjun pag nag-away. Because alam ko ‘yung kapatid ko hindi niya kaya pero yung mga nakapaligid sa kanya kaya,” Nancy said in an interview with ANC.

Junjun is running for the top elected post in Makati against his sister Abigail. The two had a heated exchange during a forum over the weekend.

“I was really fearing for his life. Unang-una ‘yung mga pamangkin ko kawawa naman, wala na ngang nanay, baka mawalan pa ng tatay kasi nga magiging ganun kainit pag naglaban sila,” Nancy said.

Kennely Ann Lacia-Binay, Junjun's wife, passed away in 2009 due to complications arising from a difficult pregnancy. The couple has four children.

Junjun said he already received information about people who were planning to hurt him as early as last year. He said there were also people checking on him everyday.

He, however, refused to say where it is coming from.

“Kasi ‘yung last year I was already getting information  na there were people who were planning to hurt me. I just told my mom kasi ayaw ko naman  palakihin. They were actually getting my schedule. There was a person checking on me practically the whole day, ‘yung mga activities ko. And my mom feared for my safety because I go around without (a security),” he said.

He said their fear was somehow amplified when his long time assistant Monaliza “Monette” Bernardo was killed in March.

“I’d rather not comment at this point but keeping it within the family, at least I had the opportunity  to tell my mom and my sisters about it. Monette died, my assistant died,” he said.

GMA News Online is still trying to get the side of the mayor as of posting time.

Nancy was with Junjun when the latter filed his certificate of candidacy for mayor months ago.

Their father, former Vice President and longtime Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay, was with Abigail when she did. —NB, GMA News
