DOTr orders hunt for reckless driver in viral video
The Department of Transportation has ordered authorities to seize the man seen in a video driving from passenger seat of his vehicle in a viral video, according to a report of Mariz Umali on GMA News’ Balitanghali Thursday.
After the Land Transportation Office (LTO) identified Luis Miguel Lopez or Miko Lopez as the driver in the viral video, they filed charges of reckless driving, failure to wear seat belt and, illegal modification of vehicle against him.
Their personnel went to the village where Lopez lives to serve him a subpoena. But, the security guard stopped the personnel from entering the village.
Lopez was also asked to report to the LTO on Wednesday afternoon but did not show up.
"Magpo-proceed na po ito sa evaluation ng case niya. We can come up with a resolution within the week. Ire-review po ito ni Asec. (Edgar) Galvante at next week na po ito,” said the LTO spokesperson Francis Almora.
LTO chief Asec. Galvante has the authority to revoke one’s license if he thinks the person does not deserve it, according to LTO.
"Titingnan natin ang possibility ng lifetime ban sa kanya from having a license,” Almora said.
In the viral video, Lopez can be seen driving in the passenger seat with his left hand on the steering wheel and his left leg slung over the center console into the driver's side to manipulate the pedals.
He can even be seen taking his left hand off the steering wheel to light a cigarette.
"Lahat nang bawal ginagawa ko," he told the man filming the video in the backseat. —Joviland Rita/LBG, GMA News
