UST Eng’g probes alleged group chat scandal
The University of Santo Tomas - Faculty of Engineering on Monday said it has placed under administrative investigation the students and the professor who are allegedly involved in a group chat scandal containing private photos of women.
In a statement posted on the Facebook account of the Varsitarian, the official publication of the university, the Faculty noted that UST "does not condone any inappropriate conduct exhibited by students or teachers."
"We are saddened by the alleged involvement of our students and a faculty member in an online misbehavior. In response, we have immediately placed the students and faculty member under administrative investigation," the Faculty said.
"We commit to a fair and timely resolution of the issues, observing due process but without compromising the transformative nature of Thomasian Education," it added.
According to an earlier report of the Varsitarian, a Twitter account named “Anon Leaks” shared screenshots of the group chat which contained private photos and videos of female students from various universities.
The screenshots had indicated that the students involved were allegedly from the Faculty of Engineering.
In the report, it was noted that the said faculty had conducted a “fact-finding meeting” with the students involved in the issue. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
