Rain catcher provides Marikina school with much-needed water

Amid the rotational water service interruptions in Metro Manila, a rain catcher facility has spared a school in Marikina from the lack of water supply.

According to a report by Mariz Umali on GMA's 24 Oras on Wednesday, Marikina Elementary School's rain catcher facility has been providing water for the school's restrooms by collecting rainwater in drums that are connected to pipes.

The facility has been greatly beneficial to the comfort of the school's 2,000 students.

"Napakapalad po namin na mayroon kaming ganito na rain catcher. Ito po ay nakakatulong na pambuhos ng aming mga CR. Kung wala po 'yan maaaring kanina, pwede na kaming magsuspinde ng klase," said principal Hilda Tardecilla.

The rain catcher facility was installed by the local government in the school in 2000, pursuant to Republic Act 6716 which mandates the establishment of a water well and water collector in each barangay.

Twenty-eight out of Marikina's 33 public schools already have rain catcher facilities, according to the city's Schools Division Superintendent — Dona Magsino/BM, GMA News
