Isko inspects Vitas slaughterhouse, vows renovation done in 6 months
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Wednesday vowed to renovate the Vitas slaughterhouse, as he visited the facility and found it in poor, unsanitary condition.
Moreno promised to expedite the construction, expecting that a new Vitas slaughterhouse will be finished in six months, Super Radyo DZBB's Isa Avendaño-Umali reported on Balitanghali.
The Vitas slaughterhouse is the primary abattoir of the city of Manila.
But, a dilapidated, stinking, and unsanitary Vitas greeted the mayor during his inspection.
Moreno said the new slaughterhouse will have a community where its personnel could live, the report said.
Also, Moreno was quoted as saying that the new slaughterhouse should meet the standards of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Records reveal there are more than 300 butchers at the slaughterhouse.
Meanwhile, the city government is looking into the legality of presence of a cockpit arena at slaughterhouse, the report added. —Jamil Santos/LBG, GMA News
