Mayor Isko orders relief of precinct commander after seeing congested, dirty Carriedo

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno ordered the relief of a police precinct commander after seeing piles of trash and vending stalls along Carriedo during his midnight rove around Manila around 2 a.m. on Wednesday.

"Ito po ang Carriedo... tingnan mo ang basura. Sino ang may kagagawan nyan?" he said at the livestreamed video.

"Sino 'yung major dyan? Ay nako ha. Sino 'yung major [Police Community Precinct commander] dito? Pa-relieve 'yan bukas ha. Sinasabi ko na eh," he instructed his staff.

Moreno was irritated as a portion of the thoroughfare had been blocked again to motorists.

"Buwelta ka na. Wala nang daan. Eh paano pati sa gitna ng kalye basura, vendor," he said.

He also showed to the netizens that Plaza Miranda, near Carriedo, has already been cleared.

"Ang linis-linis ng Plaza Miranda oh. 'Yung Carriedo sabi ko 'wag nila babalikan eh. Ito Plaza Miranda nagagamit na ang taumbayan," the mayor said. "Sinabi ko na ho non-negotiable ang Carriedo."

Moreno's efforts to clear the busy streets of Manila have earned him praise from the public.

Street vendors, however, have pleaded with the mayor to let them continue their livelihood.

Earlier this week, a clearing operation in Carriedo resulted in a scuffle between street vendors and local authorities. — Dona Magsino/BM, GMA News
