Isa Avendaño-Umali in a report on Super Radyo dzBB identified the fugitives as Mamerto Valenzuela and Dennis Valdez.
BJMP spokesman JC Major Xavier Solda said Valenzuela has a rape case, while Valdez was involved in illegal drugs.
Jail officers noticed the two inmates were missing at 4 a.m., at the time the Metro Manila Shake Drill was being conducted.
An investigation into the escape is underway, jail authorities said.
Earlier after the escape, jail officers were quoted as saying they heard what seemed to be smashing sounds coming from the drainage canal of the city jail, which the fugitives supposedly used as their escape route. —Jamil Santos/LBG, GMA News
