Relocation plan in place for those affected by Makati subway –Intradev

As the construction of the $3.5-billion Makati subway was expected to affect several families living along the line, the company behind the project explained how a rightful exchange of property would be achieved.

While Philippine Infradev President and CEO Antonio Tiu did know the specific number of families that would be affected by the 10 kilometer underground transport system that will run from EDSA-Ayala to the Ospital ng Makati, he believed that it would be "quite minimal."

"Kasi most of the 10-kilometer subway actually goes through public roads. But, of course, there might be a few parts where we might affect a few families," Tiu explained during a Friday media forum in Quezon City.

He added that families affected by the project would be transferred to new homes within the city.

"We will put up intra-city relocation sites," Tiu said. "So, actually, those families [who] will be affected, [it will be like] like winning a lottery. They will have a new house in exchange for the old house."

The Makati subway system aims to significantly ease traffic congestion in Makati City by providing alternative transport services for up to 700,000 commuters.

The city government awarded the public-private partnership project to the consortium of Philippine Infradev (formerly IRC Properties) in October last year.

The official groundbreaking ceremony was held in December 2018.

Tiu said they aimed to complete the project by 2025. — DVM, GMA News
