QC tops NCR cities in garbage collection spending at P1.6 billion
Quezon City, the largest city in the National Capital Region, spent the most on garbage collection in 2018 at P1.6 billion, a P486 million increase compared with 2017, according to the Commission on Audit's annual audit report on the NCR.
Ranking second to Quezon City in garbage collection spending was Manila at P654 million, a P49 million hike compared with 2017.
A close third was Caloocan City, which spent P610 million or a P38 million increase from 2017 figures.
Rounding up the top ten spenders in garbage-hauling spending were Makati with P533 million, Taguig City with P463 million, Parañaque City with P410 million, Pasay City with P381 million, Mandaluyong City with P83 million, and Muntinlupa City P242 million.
The cities of Marikina, Valenzuela, Las Piñas and Malabon also spent more than P100 million in garbage collection, coughing out P178 million, P170 million, P141 million and P118 million, respectively.
Least spenders
The municipality of Pateros, on the other hand, spent the least on garbage collection at P17 million.
The second least spender was Navotas City with P46 million, followed by San Juan City with P93 million.
Of the 17 areas in NCR, only Parañaque and Muntinlupa City spent less in garbage collection in 2018 compared to 2017 figures.
From spending P416 million in 2017, Parañaque cut back its expenses to P410 million in 2018.
Muntinlupa City, on the other hand, only spent P242 million in 2018 compared with P257 million in 2017. — DVM, GMA News
