Isko says 2016 Senate loss taught him a lesson on trust

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Wednesday said his unsuccessful Senate bid in the 2016 elections had taught him to be careful with trusting people.

"It teaches you a lesson," Moreno said in an interview on GMA's FYI with Richard Heydarian, referring to his defeat.

"You really have to be careful with trusting people. It doesn't matter whether they used to be the president of the country or they're superstar."

Moreno ran for senator in 2016 instead of mayor in Manila reportedly to give way to then-reelectionist mayor Joseph "Erap" Estrada, who was also his ally.

"But that's water under the bridge, I moved on," Moreno said.

Moreno, who defeated Estrada in the 2019 mayoral race, said in politics, one should not be bitter after losing in an election.

"Huwag kang kumakain ng ampalaya sa politika, because ang ampalaya maganda yan sa diabetes. Hindi yan maganda sa buhay," he said.

After his defeat, Moreno said he focused on improving himself. —KBK, GMA News
