Yasay brought to hospital after BP shoots up


Former Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. was brought to a hospital on Thursday evening following his arrest for alleged violation of banking laws.

According to a report by Dano Tingcungco in GMA News TV's State of the Nation with Jessica Soho, Yasay complained of difficulty breathing, chest pain, and his blood pressure shot up to 160/100.

The Manila Police District (MPD) did not disclose the specific hospital where he undergoing medical treatment but said that the facility is just "nearby."

If Yasay will get a clearance from a doctor, he will spend the night at the custodial and detention section of the MPD.

The police said they will no special treatment for Yasay.

Yasay earlier said that he will not post bail until he was brought to the judge to question his arrest which he described as an "abuse of process and travesty of justice."

Yasay was arrested in connection with several violations of the General Banking Law and the New Central Bank Act.

Records showed that Yasay and five others, as officers of the Banco Filipino Savings and Morgages Bank, allegedly conspired sometime between 2001 and 2009 to secure from the bank a loan accommodation worth P350 million for Tierrasud, Inc.

All the accused allegedly failed to report the loan to the supervision of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

They also allegedly failed to correct the violation despite instructions to do so. — Dona Magsino/BAP, GMA News
