Suspect in killing of Manila City government employee surrenders

The suspect tagged in the death of a Manila City Hall employee has surrendered, Luisito Santos reported on Super Radyo's dzBB.

The suspect gave himself up in Bacoor, Cavite late Tuesday evening.

The sibling and child of the victim went to the Manila City Hall and was met by Mayor Isko Moreno.

According to the Manila Public Information Office, 46-year-old Eric Capulong surrendered to Moreno on Tuesday night and admitted to hitting his live-in partner with a hammer on her head.

Capulong is under the custody of the Manila Police District (MPD) Special Mayor's Reaction Team (SMaRT).

Capulong's live-in partner, identified as 39-year-old Concepcion Beldad, is an employee of the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB).

"It appears that the suspect and the victim had a heated argument because the latter tried to break up with the former. Investigation revealed that the suspect hit the victim with a hammer on her head," the police report said.

"Relatives of the victim rushed her to Tondo Medical Center but was pronounced dead-on-arrival," it added.

In an interview, one of the reasons the suspect hit his wife is jealousy. Capulong said he saw Beldad's social media posts showing the victim with another man.

According to report by Vonne Aquino on GMA News' Unang Balita on Wednesday, Moreno promised to give financial assistance to the victim's five children, two of whom are the suspect's children. The other three were the victim's children from a previous relationship.

One of the children, Aichel Romero, expressed gratitude that justice has caught up with the suspect. —BAP/KG, GMA News
