Angkas rider who refused payment from student goes viral
A driver of the motorcycle-hailing app Angkas went viral on social media after a passenger shared his good deed of giving her a free ride to make it to class on time.
On September 28, YouScooper Aira Artugue booked a ride on Angkas as she was running late to her class at the Centro Escolar University in Makati.
After she was dropped off at her destination, Artugue said she handed her payment to driver Jester Regis Carillo, but the latter refused to accept it.
“Shout out kay kuya Angkas driver kanina for not letting me pay kahit anong pilit ko. As a college student na hirap na hirap na sa gastusin sa school, may mga ANGHEL talaga that are always willing to help. Thank you po dahil sa inyo may ipon ako ngayong araw,” Artugue said in her Facebook post that has now been shared over 14,000 times.
In a message on the Angkas app after they parted ways, Carillo told the student that he did everything he could “within Angkas limitations” to get her to her campus on time after learning that she was running late.
“Pasensya na po. Hindi po talaga ako tumatanggap ng bayad mula sa estudyante,” he said. “Mag-aral po kayo mabuti at sa ibang tao nyo na lang po ibalik ang kabutihang naranasan ninyo sa akin. God bless you.”
Heartfelt comments from netizens who were touched by Carillo’s gesture poured in soon after the post became viral.
“Grabe, ipinapapasa nya ang kabutihan na nagawa nya sa iba. NAPAKADALANG NA LANG NG KATULAD MO PO, NAPAKABUTI MO,” said user Rizalyn Vierneza.
“Naluha nmn po ako salute you sir good job po god bless you always and to your family,” said Lih Ihza. —Julia Ornedo/LDF, GMA News
