Palace saddened by Star City fire, urges gov’t agencies to extend assistance to victims

Malacañang on Wednesday said it was saddened by the fire that razed amusement park Star City and the offices of the Manila Broadcasting Company in Pasay City.

“The Palace expresses its grief following the unfortunate news about the early Wednesday morning fire that hit the Star City compound, which damaged not only the amusement park but also the Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC), where dzRH and other FM stations are housed,” presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said.

“As we near Christmas, this is truly sad news knowing that Star City is a place where Filipino families visit to celebrate the Yuletide season.”

Star City said it will be closed to the public this Christmas season while the MBC assured the public of continued operations of its FM stations Love Radio, Yes the Best and Easy Rock.

MBC’s AM station dzRH is expected to go back on-air within 48 hours.

“To our friends in the media who are affected, we wish to let them know that we are one with them in this tragic incident,” Panelo said.

Panelo also urged government instrumentalities to extend any form of assistance to those hit by Wednesday’s fire.

The Bureau of Fire Protection is looking at electrical overload or arson as the cause of the blaze. — RSJ, GMA News
