MMDA to truckers: Avoid NLEX on certain hours during opening of SEA Games

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Monday reminded truckers to avoid the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) on certain hours during the opening ceremonies of the Southeast Asian Games on November 30.

"Nakipag-usap po tayo sa mga truckers association at napag-usapan po kung maaaring agahan nila ang kanilang mga transactions at iwasan ang NLEX as early as 11 in the morning hanggang alas-singko, alas-sais po ng gabi," MMDA spokesperson Asec. Celine Pialago said in an interview on Unang Balita.

"'Yun lang naman po 'yung mga oras na kailangan tandaan ng ating mga kababayan para ho makaiwas sila sa pagbigat ng daloy ng trapiko," she added.

The opening ceremonies of the SEA Games will be held on November 30 at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.

A stop-and-go scheme will also be implemented by the MMDA in road networks that will be used by the convoy of athletes.

"'Yung convoy inaasahan na dadaan sa yellow lane, overpasses and underpasses sa kahabaan ng EDSA," Pialago said.

Other chokepoint areas have also been identified by the MMDA, in preparation for the 12-day sports event that will be held in various venues.

Suspension of classes from December 2 to December 6 in seven schools along the route of the convoys was also recommended, but is still pending approval from the concerned government officials, according to Pialago. —Dona Magsino/KBK, GMA News
