Over 1,600 SEA Games athletes already billeted in Metro Manila — NCRPO

A day before the opening ceremonies of the 30th Southeast Asian Games in the country, over 1,600 athletes are already billeted in Metro Manila, according to the Metro Manila police.

"As of now, 6 a.m., 1,680 athletes na po ang dumating sa lahat ng 27 billet areas. There are 30 billet areas, 'yung tatlo wala pa po naka-schedule pa po sa December ang arrival noon," National Capital Region Police Office acting director Brigadier General Debold Sinas said at a press briefing on Friday.

Sinas said the crime rate was low in the capital region from November 25 to 28, 2019 because of heightened police visibility.

Over 10,000 police officers have already been deployed, according to Sinas.

Over 8,000 delegates for the SEA Games are expected to gather in sports venues in the National Capital Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and Ilocos region until the second week of December.

The total police force that will be deployed to ensure peace and order in these areas will reach over 27,000.
