Man losing sight due to cataracts serenades Black Nazarene devotees

A man with cataracts in both of his eyes serenaded the devotees attending the hourly Mass at the Quiapo Church during the Feast of the Black Nazarene on Thursday.

Rudy Bartolata, 40, was accompanied by his wife Lovely as he walked along the streets near Quiapo playing music.

Using a battered electric guitar and an old speaker, Rudy said he performs in the area only during the Traslacion and Friday Masses at the Quiapo Church.

Rudy said his eye condition started when he was 13 years old. Due to this, he has been suffering from poor vision.

“Pero na nakakaaninag pa siya,” Lovely, 26, told GMA News Online.

Lovely said she always joins Rudy while he plays on the streets.

Living together for eight years already, Rudy and Lovely are blessed with two children.

Though he was not a Catholic, Rudy still plays music for Catholic churchgoers to support his family. —KBK, GMA News
