PNR suspends Vito Cruz to Sta. Mesa ops due to Pandacan fire


The Philippine National Railways (PNR) on Saturday suspended train operations from Vito Cruz station to Sta. Mesa to give way to firefighting operations at an adjacent warehouse in Pandacan, Manila.

"We allowed fire trucks to access our right of way to mitigate and contain the fire," PNR General Manager Junn Magno said.

"Our train control office is coordinating for partial operations. Our tracks were not affected but the fire is adjacent lang so we have to give way to BFP," Magno said.

For her part, PNR spokesperson Joseline Geronimo told GMA News Online that partial operations were implemented at Tutuban to Sta. Mesa stations and vice versa, Gov. Pascual Malabon to Sta. Mesa and vice versa, and Alabang to Vito Cruz and vice versa.

"Affected stations San Andres, Paco and Pandaca," Gerenimo said.

"As of now the fire trucks are moving out from our railway tracks and then we will resume operations soon as our tracks are declared passable and safe for passenger train operations," she said.

The fire at a warehouse of San Miguel Corp broke out at 10:36 a.m., according to the Bureau of Fire Protection. The blaze reached Task Force Bravo past 11 a.m.

Firemen were able to put the fire under control at 1:52 p.m., according to a report by Ralph Obina on Super Radyo dzBB. — MDM, GMA News
