No regrets, says Greenhills hostage-taker
Though currently detained and facing charges, Alchie Paray said he did not regret holding several individuals hostage on Monday at a mall in Greenhills, San Juan as it allowed him to air his grievances.
"At least kahit papaano, nangyari yung gusto ko na through media magkaroon sila ng public apology, ma-expose sila. Sa part na 'yun, masaya ako," Paray said in Marisol Abdurahman's exclusive report on 24 Oras on Tuesday.
Paray said that the source of his anger was the unfair treatment of the V-mall's security officials of their security guards.
He recounted he once received a harsh scolding after a tenant, whom he confronted for not wearing an ID, complained before a security official.
"Kung gusto ka tanggalin, suspendihin, o hamakin, katulad nu'ng nabanggit ko kahapon na mismo through formation, general formation namin na tinatawag, ayun sabi ni ano na, 'sino ba kayo rito? Mga gwardya lang kayo dito'," Paray said.
Since then, Paray said his relationship with security officials went sour.
Paray also alleged that the concerned official gave him an unfavorable schedule.
According to Paray, the incident prompted him to leave his post and plan his next moves.
"Walang exactly na ganyan [banta]. Before pa, December pa 'yun, expect the unexpected," he said.
Though armed with a grenade and a gun, Paray said he did not intend to harm anyone.
San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora and National Capital Region Police Office chief Major General Debold Sinas said that Paray surrendered after they agreed to let him speak in front of the media.
"That's the strategy. Because, what he wanted was for him to talk, diba? 'Pag hindi ko siya pinayagan sasabihin niya, 'sinungaling ka mayor, ah? Sabi mo sakin makakapag-salita ako, ah?' Syempre kasama 'yun eh," Zamora said.
Meanwhile, Sinas defended that he was confident in his snipers who were on standby during the time.
"Judgement call between one person versus 40. Could you just imagine if we keep on insisting na 'wag dalhin 'yun, hindi siya lalabas, hindi rin talaga namin siya lalabas.' So, it's a judgment call," Sinas said.
Paray will be facing charges of frustrated murder, illegal possession of firearms and explosives, and illegal detention. —Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
