BGC residents, employees wary after COVID-19 case confirmed in Taguig
Residents and employees at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig City were being extra careful after an employee of an accounting firm based at the business hub tested positive for COVID-19.
Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano earlier confirmed that an employee of Deloitte Philippines was one of the two new COVID-19 cases reported by the Department of Health.
The Six/NEO building, where Deloitte is based, was locked down on Saturday evening.
Some employees at the BGC said they were avoiding crowded places to protect themselves against the 2019 novel coronavirus.
“For now iwas-iwas muna sa madaming tao, sa paggimik. Especially iyong mga nagwo-work sa B-BPO, mahihilig mag-inom after [work],” one employee said in a report by Mai Bermudez on GMA News TV’s Balitanghali Weekend.
“Siyempre, hindi ka gano’n ka-aware na magkakaroon pala bigla ng outbreak. Pa'no ka tatakbo? Paano mo iiwasan, 'di ba?" another added.
Meanwhile, one resident said life needed to go on despite the COVID-19 threat.
“If needed talagang lumabas, I don't want to stop myself naman, especially sa trabaho,” she said. “[I’ll] be more hygienic, basically. I don't want to stop naman our daily lives because of it e.”
Cayetano said the local government would deploy more ambulances, establish service hotlines, and ban mass gatherings in the city as preventive measures against the virus.
The BGC Management had likewise canceled several weekend events. — Julia Mari Ornedo/DVM, GMA News
