San Juan LGU work cancelled to give way to sanitation, disinfection

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora has announced the cancellation of work in all LGU offices on Friday, the 13th of March, 2020 amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) threat, according to an announcement posted on the city's social media account.

The work suspension is aimed at conducting sanitation and disinfection in all offices, public schools, and the headquarters of the San Juan Police office, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and the Bureau of Fire Protection that will continue through the weekend as a precautionary measure against the spread of COVID-19.

The only employees expected to report for work on Friday are those from the City Health Department and the City Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office, and other critical providers.

"The health and welfare of all our constituents in San Juan City are our top priorities so we are taking precautionary measures such as the sanitation and disinfection of all our LGU offices and schools," Zamora said in a statement.

"We have to do everything we can and however we can to serve our constituents better especially at times like this," he added.

In San Juan City, there are eight recorded COVID-19 confirmed cases as of 6 p.m. on March 11, 2020.

The patients are confined in hospitals for treatment but city health officials are working to make sure all the people with exposure to the patients are traced and advised to self-quarantine. — BAP, GMA News
