All Malabon residents to be endorsed to gov't social amelioration program -mayor

All residents of Malabon City will be endorsed as beneficiaries of the government's social amelioration program, according to Mayor Lenlen Oreta.

In a press statement, Oreta said he already instructed officials of the 21 barangays in the city to update their respective database of families so that he can endorse a master list to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Oreta underscored that the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) spares no one.

"Every family deserves aid from the government in these extraordinary times. No one should be left behind,” Oreta said.

According to Oreta, the DSWD has allotted 44,032 slots for the city. However, he noted that in 2015, the Philippine Statistics Authority had recorded a total population of 365,525 individuals or over 86,000 families in the city.

Authorities earlier said Malabon City was among the areas in Metro Manila which was least affected by COVID-19.

The local government has mobilized its e-tricycles and "Palengke-on-Wheels" to cater to the needs of its residents during the month-long implementation of the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.

It also distributed almost 3,000 sacks of rice, over 300,000 canned goods, 150,000 sachets of coffee and more than 16,000 donated relief packs to all families in the city.

As of April 2, Malabon City has nine confirmed COVID-19 cases, with three fatalities and one recovery. --Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
