Chief nurse at Mandaluyong City Medical Center succumbs to COVID-19


The Philippines’ has lost another health worker in the fight against the deadly coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Manny Pacheco, the chief nurse of the Mandaluyong City Medical Center, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, the hospital’s administrator confirmed to GMA News Online. He was 62.

Dr. Cesar Tutaan said Pacheco had been serving at the hospital for more than 30 years. He became the chief nurse in 2016.

Pacheco joined the roster of brave Filipino health workers who died in the line of duty battling COVID-19.

The viral disease has already infected 252 medical workers in the country, according to the Department of Health.

Dr. Beverlo Ho said 152 of those who had been infected are doctors. Sixty three are nurses.

As of Thursday, the country has reported 4,076 cases of COVID-19, including 203 deaths and 124 recoveries. -NB, GMA News
