Manila barangay to be placed under total lockdown after videos of boxing, bingo surface
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno will place Barangay 20 on 24-hour total lockdown starting 8 p.m. on Tuesday after videos surfaced showing residents at a boxing event and a bingo activity amid the enhanced community quarantine to fight COVID-19.
According to a report by Katrina Son on GMA News’ Unang Balita, the barangay covers Parola Compound and Isla Putting Bato.
Manila Police District Station 2 commander Police Lieutenant Colonel Magno Labunos Gallora Jr. said they will deploy 150 personnel to monitor the area.
“Yung Isla Puting Bato, walang probela ‘yan. Isa lang yung entrance. Isa lang yung exit. Maglalagay lang tayo ng police doon at may gate na malaki doon. Wala nang lalabas,” he said.
At Parola Compound, Gates 1 to 20 will be closed and manned by the police. Authorities will also monitor all other possible passages in the compound.
“Nahihirapan din ang police na manghuli kung anuman ang ginagawa sa loob, kasi sa bungad pa lang nagtetext na ‘yung mga andun. Pagdating sa dulo ng pulis, wala na ‘yung gumagawa ng, halimbawa, may nagsasabong doon,” Gallora said.
Under the total lockdown, quarantine passes will be void. According to Gallora, violators will be arrested for breaching the quarantine protocols.
As of Monday, Manila has recorded 323 confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 with 42 fatalities and 27 recoveries.
