Makati condo residents temporarily flee units after collapse
Some tenants of SMDC’s Jazz Residences chose to spend the afternoon outside and away from the building after a part of the condominium collapsed on Thursday.
According to a 24 Oras report by Sandra Aguinaldo, some Jazz residents went out to the Jupiter and N. Garcia streets as authorities investigated the cause of the collapse in the Bel-Air, Makati condominium before noon.
“We were refilling our water at the water station and then suddenly we saw a big concrete block falling down from the top, so as soon as we saw that, all of us ran. We tried to go back but they did not allow [us],” a foreigner resident said.
“Naramdaman lang po namin kaagad yung biglang kalabog, sobrang lakas. Parang lumindol, nagkaroon ng yanig,” another resident said.
Authorities earlier ruled out explosion as the cause of the collapse.
The SMDC vowed to continue the investigation and assured the public that the incident won't happen again.
