Makati building's structural integrity intact despite partial collapse -SMDC

The SM Development Corporation (SMDC) on Thursday assured the public of the structural integrity of the Jazz Residences condominium after a ledge fell off and inflicted minor injuries on two people.

In a statement, the SMDC said a walk-through of the mall premises and residential buildings by their structural consultant Sy^2 and Makati City engineers found that the incident did not affect the structural integrity of the establishments.

“It was concluded that the incident does not affect the structural integrity of the development and that the buildings are safe for occupancy,” they said.

A part of the condominium collapsed before noon on Thursday.

Authorities have since ruled out explosion as a possible cause.

“We are relieved to report that, apart from two people who sustained minor abrasions, there were no casualties resulting from this event,” SMDC said.

“The cause of the incident is under investigation and we will take whatever measures necessary to address the situation and avoid any recurrence,” they added. -MDM, GMA News
