Volume of vehicles up 30% following transition to modified ECQ —MMDA exec
An official of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday said the volume of vehicles increased by 30% after the transition from enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to modified.
Interviewed on Unang Balita, MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said that during the ECQ period, only 5% of vehicles were on the streets since only essential workers were allowed to go outside.
“Noong nagdagdag tayo ng authorized person outside residence, medyo dumami-dami na. Siguro, tantsahan namin nasa 30 percent ang increase kahapon,” he said.
Garcia attributed the increase to the excitement of the public with the relaxed restrictions, many of them reportedly flocked to malls and other commercial establishments that were closed during the ECQ period last weekend. --Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
