OFW stuck in Manila gives birth at Fabella Hospital

An overseas Filipino worker who has been stranded in an isolation facility in Manila has given birth at Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital on Tuesday after she reached her due date while still awaiting her COVID-19 test results.

According to Lei Alviz’s 24 Oras report, “Marie” called the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration for help on Tuesday morning as she was about to go into labor.

OWWA health workers examined her and brought her to the hospital in Sta. Cruz, Manila, where she was immediately sent to the delivery room.

Marie is just one of the 11 pregnant OFWs repatriated and currently staying in a hotel facility for their mandatory quarantine.

At the hospital, many pregnant women were outside waiting to be admitted.

According to the obstetrics department, Fabella has been receiving a lot of pregnant women lately.

“Medyo nasa maximum capacity na po kami. Lahat naman po ng pumupunta sa Fabella ay ine-examine naman sa aming emergency room tapos kung sa aming examination ay hindi pa sila admissible, then pinapauwi po namin sila and they are advised na bumalik na lang,” Fabella hospital OB department chairman Dr. Cynthia Anzures said. — Ma.
