DOH decries ambush of NCMH chief Cortez
The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday expressed shock and alarm at the killing of the chief of the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) and his driver.
NCMH chief Dr. Roland Cortez and his driver Ernesto dela Cruz were killed in a shooting incident in Barangay Culiat, Quezon City on Monday morning.
“The DOH family extends its deepest condolences to the families of Dr. Roland and Mr. Ernesto, and vows to pursue justice for their untimely deaths,” the department said in a statement.
“Dr. Cortez was a respected leader who sought to treat clients with utmost dignity. DOH is coordinating with authorities and the PNP-CIDU to ensure that the perpetrators are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” it added.
The DOH also denounced acts of violence against healthcare workers, especially amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Police are still investigating the shooting incident.—AOL, GMA News
