Divisoria vendors earning well from online sellers amid COVID-19 pandemic

Divisoria vendors are earning well from online sellers as e-commerce trends amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, according to a report on “24 Oras” by Ivan Mayrina onThursday.

Leo Layam, who has been a vendor in Divisoria for 40 years, said he is now earning up to P20,000 because online sellers tend to buy bulks from him.

“Mas malakas din ang online kasi ‘yon ang uso ngayon. Tapos mas maganda pa rin dito kasi lahat ng nag-o-online, sa akin kumukuha,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Department of Trade and Industry reminded vendors and consumers to still observe protocols amid the COVID-19 threat.

“[T]ayo na rin mismo, as individuals, sundin ‘yong physical distancing, pagsuot ng face shield, mask and then alcohol dapat mayroon palagi sa bulsa,” Trade undersecretary Ruth Castelo said.

In June, the Bureau of Internal Revenue required online sellers” or those conducting business transactions through digital or electronic means to register with the taxman to ensure tax compliance.

Likewise, the BIR also wants these businesses to declare their past transactions for taxation purposes.

The order will not only include partner sellers or merchants, but also other stakeholders such as payment gateways, delivery channels, internet service providers, and other facilitators. —Ma. Angelica Garcia/LDF, GMA News
