With LRT1 Roosevelt Station closed, commuters flock to Balintawak Station

Some passengers of Light Rail Transit - Line 1 (LRT1) were disappointed on Monday morning when they arrived at Roosevelt Station and found it closed.

The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) announced last month the temporary closure of the LRT1 Roosevelt station from September 5 to December 28 for the construction of the common station to service the LRT1, MRT3, MRT7 and the Metro Manila Subway.

Passengers said they would have to take an additional bus trip from Roosevelt Station to reach LRT1 Balintawak Station, according to a report by Jonathan Andal on GMA News' Unang Balita.

Meanwhile, at the LRT1 Balintawak Station, a long line of commuters formed even before 5 a.m. as passengers who regularly boarded the train at Roosevelt Station headed to Balintawak, according to a separate report by Corinne Catibayan on Unang Balita.

Social distancing posed a challenge as the line grew longer.

At 7 a.m., more and more passengers arrived.

With the temporary closure of Roosevelt Station, the Balintawak Station is now the last stop in the LRT1 route coming from Baclaran.

Strict minimum health and safety protocols were being implemented meanwhile at the Balintawak Station.

Passengers have to wear face mask and face shield and have their body temperature checked.

They also have to disinfect their hands with alcohol at the station entrance.

The LRMC earlier said that starting September 5, the first trains out of the Baclaran and Balintawak Stations would leave at 4:30 a.m. on all days of the week.

Meanwhile, on weekdays, the last train would leave Baclaran Station at 10 p.m. and Balintawak Station at 10:15 p.m.

On weekends, the last train would leave the Baclaran Station at 9:30 p.m., while that in Balintawak Station would depart at 9:45 p.m.
